Configuring Windows 95/98 to Connect to Maverick Internet

Step 1 Configuring Dial-Up Networking

Double-click your left mouse button on the My Computer icon. A window will open containing a folder named Dial-Up Networking. Double-click on the folder. Another window will open containing an icon named Make New Connection. Double-click on the icon. A dialog box will open where you will type in a name for the computer you are dialing... type Maverick Internet in the text box.

You are also asked to Select a modem. Click on the down arrow to the right of the modem text box. There should only be one modem listed, but if there is more than one, select the one you want to use to connect to the Internet. Click Next.

Type 830 in the Area code text box. Type in the access phone number Maverick gave you (after activating your account) in the Telephone number text box. Click Next.

A dialog box will open confirming that you have successfully created a new connection named Maverick Internet. Click Finish.

A new icon named Maverick Internet will now appear in the Dial-Up Networking window.

Step 2 Configuring the Maverick Internet Connection

Click your RIGHT mouse button on the Maverick Internet icon in the Dial-Up Networking window, then click Properties in the drop-down menu that appears.

A Maverick Internet dialog box will open. Click on the Server Type button in the lower left area of the dialog box. A Server Types dialog box will open. In the first text box it should read PPP: Windows 95 (98), Windows NT, Internet. There are six checkboxes on the left hand side. The only two that SHOULD BE CHECKED are: Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP.

Click on the TCP/IP Settings button in the lower left area of the dialog box. A TCP/IP Settings dialog box will open. Click Server assigned IP address. Click Server assigned name server addresses. The two checkboxes in the lower right area SHOULD BE CHECKED.

Click OK on each dialog box until they are all gone. (If you would like to have a shortcut to Maverick Internet on your Desktop, click and drag the Maverick Internet icon out of the Dial-Up Networking window onto your desktop.)

Double-click the Maverick Internet icon. A Connect To dialog box will appear (this is commonly referred to as " opening your dialer"). Type in the User name and Password you chose when your Maverick Dialup Account was created. If you do not want to type in your password every time you log on, check the Save password checkbox. (If the checkbox is "grayed out", you will have to type in your password in each time you log on. This can be corrected - see Helpful Tips on Using Windows 95)

Click on the Dial Properties button in the lower left area of the dialog box. There is no need to change anything here unless you have to dial  "9"  to obtain an outside line, or if you have the "call waiting" feature on your phone.

If you must dial "9" to get an outside line, type a 9 in the appropriate text box. If you have call waiting, check the This location has call waiting checkbox, and then in the To disable it, dial text box, select (or type in) the phone buttons necessary to disable call waiting in your carrier's area. You can find this information in the first few pages of your telephone book. Some phone companies charge an extra fee for a "disable call waiting"   feature. Call your phone company if you are not sure.)

Click OK. You are now ready to connect to Maverick Internet. Click Connect, or push Enter on your keyboard to dial in.
