Setting Up Dialup Access on Mac OSX
This tutorial describes in detail how to connect your Macintosh computer running the
OSX operating system tthe Internet for the FIRST TIME. It is intended for
new customers, or current customers who are trying to connect a new machine for the FIRST
TIME.
- To begin setting up your connection, click on the Apple menu, and select "System
Preferences..."
- Once the System Preferences window loads, click on "Network" to load the
Network Preferences.
- In the Network Preferences pane, set location to "Automatic," and set Show to
"Internal Modem." Set Configure to "use PPP." The "Domain Name
Servers" should be left blank. The "Search Domain" should be blank as well.
When you've entered this, click on the "PPP" tab.
- In the PPP tab, Service Provider should be "mav". The telephone number should
be: 896-4800. The Account name is your Maverick account name, and the password is your
Maverick password. If you don't want to have to type in your password everytime you
connect, check the "save password" box.
Look closely at the username that you
entered. It should look like an email address. If your username is johndoe, then your
username on this screen should look like johndoe@maverickbbs.com
if it doesn't, add @maverickbbs.com to the username. If you do
not know what your maverick username is,contact us at 896-4595
- If you would like to change the PPP options, click on the "PPP Options"
button, and make changes there. If you want to automatically connect to maverick when you
open your web browser, or email program, or any TCP/IP application, make sure that
"Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" is checked. If it's
unchecked, you will have to connect manually using the Internet Connect application. Click
"OK" to exit PPP Options.
- By default, the proxy settings tab is blank. Maverick does not require proxy settings.
Leave these blank.
- If you ever need to change your internal modem protocol from V90 to V34, you would do so
by clicking on the "Modem:" pulldown menu, and selecting "Apple Internal
56k Modem(V.34)." Make sure that the modem is set to "tone" dialing instead
of "pulse."
- Once you are all through configuring the network preferences, click on "Apply
Now" and close the window.
